BENGALURU: Indian Railways has relaxed norms for refund of ticket fare in the wake of Coronavirus scare.
The relaxation is application for the tickets booked for journey from 21st March to 15th April. The relaxation is given to prevent crowding and maintain social distancing. If any train cancelled by Railways from 21 March – 15th April 2020. Refund of tickets across counter can be taken up to 45 days from date of journey (Instead of 3 hours/72 hours normally).
In a press statement issued here, the Indian Railways said, If train is not cancelled but passengers don’t want to perform journey between 21st March-15th April., Ticket Deposit Receipt for refund can be submitted up to 30 days from date of journey (instead of 3 days normally) at stations.
If train is not cancelled but passengers don’t want to perform journey between 21st March-15th April., Ticket Deposit Receipt for refund can be submitted in Chief Commercial Manager’s/Chief Claims Officer’s office up to 60 days from date of journey (instead of 10 days normally).Passengers don’t wanting to travel can cancel through 139 and get refund at counters up to 30 days (Instead of before departure of train).
These relaxations are to ensure that passengers can conveniently claim refunds at a later date, without urgency.
