HUBBALLI__ Young Stars-1 emerged as the champion by defeating Jolly Cricketers in the Rajasthani Gujurati Premier League (RGPL ) cricket tournament held recently.
The tournament was organised by Sankalpa Group at the Sports Parc on Kusugal Road.
After winning the toss, the Young Stars opted fielding first. Jolly Cricketers lost all its wickets at 56 runs. Manish scored the highest runs (18) among the Jolly Cricketers.
For the Young Stars, chasing a little more than half-century target was not a difficult task. It finished the whole match in just three overs. Ajay, who hit 30 runs, emerged as the best batsman of the tournament.
In a glittering valedictory ceremony held in the evening, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vinod Mukkandar handed over the trophy and a cash prize to the winning team.
Earlier, Major Industry Minister Jagdish Shettar and Shantiniketan English Medium School Chairman Bhavarlal C Jain inaugurated the tournament.
MSIL Director Totappa Nidgundi, Vice-President of the BJP Hubli Dharwad Central Nagaraj Marathe, BJP SC/ST Morcha General Secretary Krishna Handigol, Pradhan Mantri Jan Kalyan Yojana President Suresh C Jain, HDUDA Chairman Nagesh Kalaburgi were the guests of honour.
Twenty-one teams participated in the tournament. Each team consisted of seven players and it was a day-and-night box tournament. “The main objective of the tournament is to provide a forum for the businessmen community to relax from their routine business life. The tournament is also aimed at helping the businessmen to involve in intensive physical activities and showcase their sportive skills,” said Sankalpa Group President Pradeep B Jain.
